Send newsletters and automatic welcome emails to people who have agreed to hear from you, without paying a monthly fee to a separate email service. Leaf Email runs inside WordPress, keeps your subscribers on your own site, and sends through a mailbox on your own domain.
What it does
- Signup forms with double opt-in. Paste a shortcode on any page. Everyone confirms by email before they receive anything. Spam protection needs no CAPTCHA.
- 25 ready-made email designs in six categories that take on your brand: pick a built-in look or set your own colours, logo and heading font, and every template follows.
- A visual builder with headings, text, images, buttons, columns, testimonials and a footer, plus merge tags such as the subscriber’s first name, test sends and a live preview.
- Campaigns you can send now or schedule, pause, resume or cancel. Unsubscribed, bounced and complaining contacts are never emailed.
- Welcome series. Up to five emails, each sent a set time after someone confirms.
- One-click post emails. From the post editor, email a new blog post to a list as you publish.
- Attach a file, for example a free spreadsheet, to a campaign or welcome email.
- Reports with delivered, failed and skipped counts, and optional open and click tracking that stores no IP address.
- Moving from another plugin? Import people who already agreed, such as from MailPoet, without asking them to confirm again. Unsubscribes carry over.
- Safe sending. A queue sends at a speed you set, retries failures, and never sends the same message twice after a crash.
What you need
- WordPress 6.4 or later and PHP 8.1 or later.
- A way to send mail. A mailbox on your own domain (SMTP) is the most reliable. Brevo and SendGrid are supported with a licence.
- A real cron job at your host (one line, every minute) for on-time sending. Leaf Email shows you the exact command.
- The free edition covers lists of up to 500 people at a time and six starter templates. A licence unlocks all 25 templates, scheduling, tag segments, welcome series, Brevo and SendGrid, report export and updates.
Known limits
- It sends your email properly. It cannot promise where a receiving service files it. Your domain’s SPF and DKIM records, set up at your host, matter for that.
- Email layouts are built to work in Outlook, Gmail and Apple Mail. They have been viewed in Outlook; other mail apps have not yet been checked by eye.
- Open counts are estimates: some mail apps pre-load images and others block them.
- Welcome series are the only automation for now: no branching and no other triggers.
- Brevo and SendGrid delivery is built but not yet verified with live provider accounts.
